Giles Oakden, who joined Windermere School in 1995, has built an impressive career in the construction industry, showcasing the entrepreneurial spirit fostered during his time at school. Now 36 years old, Giles reflects on how his education at Windermere School helped shape his journey.

After leaving Windermere School, Giles pursued an apprenticeship in plumbing and heating at Lancaster and Morecambe College. With hard work and determination, he quickly became qualified and embarked on a self-employed career. Seven years ago, he took a significant step forward, establishing his own construction company based in Windermere.

Today, his business has grown to include 18 employees, ranging from office staff and a project manager to builders, joiners, and plumbers. With a fleet of 15 vans, Giles’s company continues to thrive, and he has ambitious plans to expand further, aiming to employ 25 people in the coming year.

Giles credits his time at Windermere School for helping him develop a business mindset and valuable connections that have been instrumental in both his professional and personal life.
